Symphony's Scientific Practice performs studies with the breadth of claims data combined with deep, detailed clinical data. Integrating registry data, general and specialized electronic medical records data, and the client’s clinical trial data, we are able to conduct descriptive & comparative effectiveness studies which enable our clients to publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at scientific meetings and congresses, and  more effectively collaborate with academic medical centers, KOLs and medical societies.

The Associate Director will have responsibility for working directly with clients and internal Team members to design, implement, and deliver patient-level, longitudinal studies in a variety of therapeutic areas. The majorities of studies are retrospective utilizing claims, registries, lab test results, and/or EMRs and will focus on practice patterns, comparative effectiveness, outcomes and economic assessments. In addition, the Associate Director may work with colleagues to develop integrated analytical platforms. The position requires ‘hands-on’ skills and the willingness to participate in both sales, client management, and delivery.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with customers and colleagues to drive business and meet revenue targets.  Meets with clients to discuss, document, and fully understand specific needs identified.
  • Writes the study or project proposal to effectively articulates the deliverable/solution to the client.
  • Develops and designs the methodological approach to meet the client’s objectives; effectively articulates the deliverable/solution to the client.
  • Leads new customer studies and projects to ensure high quality and on-time delivery of results by participating in the project kick-off and status meetings; depending on the available capacity the Director will lead the study with execution provided by analytical colleagues, or may personally design and fulfill the project; presenting the final work product to the customer upon completion.
  • Develops and maintains expert level knowledge of data, analytical methods, disease areas, therapies and the healthcare system. 
  • May contributes to new product development by identifying gaps in current offerings as other priorities may allow.  Translates unmet client needs into new offerings by participating in product design discussions, evaluating prototypes, and engaging in beta testing.
  • Presents the final work product to the customer upon completion, including working with medical writers to deliver study reports, abstracts, posters and manuscripts.
  • Leads and/or participates in various other projects and studies as needed.



  • Minimum: Master’s Degree in research-based social science, statistics, pharmacology, or quantitative methods or 10+ years of demonstrated, successful experience
  • Preferred: Doctorate Degree in research-based social science – pharmacoeconomics, outcomes research, statistics, epidemiology, quantitative methods etc. or natural sciences e.g. medicine.

Minimum Experience: 

  • 5 years of Longitudinal Patient Analytics experience within the life sciences, pharmaceutical industry, or related support industry (e.g., consulting, data provider).
  • Experience in designing and conducting retrospective studies in health economics, outcomes research and/or epidemiology
  • Demonstrated ability to learn a complex dataset, disease area and product line quickly through self-initiative and discipline
  • Creating analytics-based solutions based on client needs.
  • Working with complex datasets to create information and solutions with little guidance or oversight.
  • Successfully able to communicate with clients in order to design, deliver and explain the results of conducted studies.
  • Previous experiences delivering studies in a consulting model or medium sized projects for time-sensitive commercial applications.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Quantitative or data expertise; ability to create solutions out of data
  • Strong communication skills, including written and oral communication.
  • Customer focused.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team
  • Critical Thinking — uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Complex Problem solving — review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Programming skills strongly preferred (SAS, SQL, STATA, R, etc.)


Travel Requirements:  Local and national travel 10% - 20% of work time.
